Ushuaia: ‘the end of the world,’ they proudly call it here. And indeed, this is pretty much where it ends.
It’s the height of summer, but snow, rain, and strong winds alternate. Sometimes the sun manages to peek through for about 10 minutes, but before you’ve even taken off your hood, it’s raining again. Luckily, never for long. After that, it’s gray again. And windy.
Buses depart for Tierra del Fuego National Park, ships set course for Antarctica, planes take off bound for Buenos Aires. Ushuaia is a city to leave from, not to stay in.
And that’s exactly what we’re not going to do. Just a few more days and we’ll cast off the lines again, heading further south. Because Ushuaia may claim to be the end of the world, but it isn’t.
