Sustainable Destination

Norway is one of our favorite destinations because of its impressive nature, deep fjords, snow-capped mountains, and rugged islands. The Norwegians themselves have long realized that their country offers a unique landscape, and that it’s something you have to take good care of.

In Norway (and Sweden too, for that matter), the so-called ‘right to roam’ applies, which means that nature belongs to everyone and you can pitch your tent or roll out your sleeping bag anywhere. The coastline, forests, and mountain areas are ‘open nature’ and are freely accessible to everyone by law. The beauty of it is that this right to roam also ensures that everyone feels responsible for that nature at the same time.

Sustainability

Partly due to this shared responsibility, Norway is one of the countries that prioritizes sustainability. Several regions and nature reserves carry the ‘Sustainable Destination’ label. This means that local entrepreneurs are committed to making and keeping their region attractive for tourists who value sustainability. They commit to strict, sustainable principles, organize eco-friendly activities, and choose ‘planet’ over ‘profit’.

Regions in Norway with a Sustainable Destination label

The Lyngen Alps, just above Tromsø, have been able to call themselves a ‘Sustainable Destination’ for quite some time. The Lofoten and Vesteralen island groups, the northern archipelago of Svalbard, and the Tromsø region have also received the coveted sustainability label in recent years. Each of these is an area where we love to take you to show you how incredibly beautiful the world is.
