Sailing Trip Tromsø and Senja: Day by Day Itinerary
The route and daily schedule below are suggestions for this active sailing vacation from Tromsø. Exactly where we sail and how long we stay depends, among other things, on the weather and wind. Nothing is fixed, but an adventure is guaranteed!
From Tromsø airport, you'll take a comfortable shuttle bus to the harbor. In the late afternoon, you'll board our sailboat. A drink with tasty snacks will be waiting for you. You'll meet your fellow travelers and settle into your cabin. After dinner, the crew will further familiarize you with the ship, including a safety briefing. Afterward, you'll hear about tomorrow's weather forecast and sailing plans.

After breakfast, we'll cast off and sail out of Tromsø harbor. Together, we'll hoist the sails. Those who wish can take the helm under the captain's watchful eye and guide us through the fjord. Depending on the wind, we'll choose a route along the north side of Kvaløya island (Norwegian for whale island) or along the south side. In either case, you'll see Kvaløya's high peaks glide by.
The next day, we head towards the island of Sommarøy, surrounded by even smaller islands and rocks. Slightly south of Sommarøy, on a small island, stands one of Norway's oldest lighthouses: Hekkingen Fyr. The wooden building from 1859 was meant to safely guide sailors into the fjord on their way to Tromsø. The light is now automated but still serves its purpose.
We arrive at the island of Senja, one of the largest islands in the Vesterålen. It boasts spectacular rock formations that stretch far out to sea. Throughout the day, you'll have a magnificent view of this rugged coast from the ship. But don't forget to look around carefully; you might just spot a sperm whale or sea eagles. After all, you never know exactly where to expect wildlife. In the afternoon, we'll dock in one of Senja's small harbors.

You'll notice that Senja is incredibly beautiful not only from the water. From land, you'll also see the most jagged mountain peaks and capture amazing vistas. You can spend the rest of the day exploring this rugged island. Part of Senja island has been declared a National Park, and the Norwegians have created several hiking trails there. So, put on your hiking boots and you're ready to go.
After breakfast and a cup of coffee, we'll cast off again later in the morning. We'll sail south and dive back into one of the beautiful fjords of the Vesterålen. Depending on the weather and wind, we'll anchor in a bay, dock at a small island, or in a small fishing harbor. Perhaps in the late afternoon, we'll all hop into the Zodiac for a tour through the fjord or take a walk along the waterline. Back on board, we'll head to the galley to prepare a delicious meal.

Depending on the weather and our anchorage, today you can take a beautiful hike on the island, stroll through a small coastal town, or we can opt for an active sailing day in one of the fjords.

And then it's time to slowly set course for Harstad. For the last time, we'll hoist the sails. If you want to spend a few more miles at the helm while the beautiful landscape of the Vesterålen passes by, this is your chance. In the afternoon, Harstad harbor will come into view, marking the end of our journey. As soon as we've moored the ship in the harbor, you can enjoy a refreshing drink on one of the terraces before sitting down for the last dinner aboard the Baltic.
With a hearty breakfast, this sailing expedition also comes to an end. For ten days, you've enjoyed the most beautiful coasts of Kvaløya, Senja, and the Vesterålen, both from the water and from land. Now it's time to pack your bags and head home. You can take the shuttle bus from the harbor to the airport, but perhaps you'll stay a little longer in the city, for example, to visit the Trondenes Historiske Senter about the (Viking) history of this region.

FAQ
